spacer image Horizon Community Church formed 10 years ago to be a group of believers in Jesus who celebrate his grace and be joined by others who share that grace.  We formed initially as a merger of two churches that wanted to put aside a mindset of simply preserving the organization of a church and embrace a ministry heart that is open to God and open to others.  We do not understand everything about God’s love in Jesus.  We are all broken in many ways, but we do know that no matter how badly we have fumbled our lives and our faith, God’s forgiveness and his love is greater.  We insist that Horizon be a safe place for all of us who hurt and or are searching for God meaning for our lives.  We seek to be authentic in our worship, our relationships, and our programs.   We do not have all things figured out.  We seek to know what God wants of us and we attempt to be flexible to where He is leading.  We are on a journey of faith as individuals and as a church.

We have a reformed perspective that emphasizes God’s creative relationship over this world and all of us and an emphasis that we do not earn grace, are never threatened by grace, and will not compromise on that grace.  We learn about that grace from the person of Jesus who is disclosed to us in the Bible, which is at the center of all worship.  Worship is both reverent and personal.  We have a heart for children and young people and we honor all ages and the beauty they bring to the tapestry of community.

We are a community church, which means that who we are changes as individuals and families join their stories with ours.  We are also part of the Christian Reformed denomination, which means that we live in relationship with other churches, we try to say clearly what we believe, and we are not dependent on the Senior Pastor for what we believe.  We want to develop healthy relationships in marriages, families and among each other as part of this community of faith.  We agree with Erwin McManus that “Many of us love religion all too much and God all too little.  We love ourselves too much and the world too little.”  With God’s grace and his Spirit’s guidance we are hungry to love God more and have hearts marked less by judgment and more by his grace.
